The Wine Thief Wine Tasting Guide

This guide is for Wine Thief customers who wish to host a wine event. It may not be reproduced or used for any other purpose.

Thanks for your interest in using The Wine Thief for your upcoming wine tasting—always a fun way to raise money for a charity, or to add an extra element to a party or dinner. We’ve prepared some basic steps and background information to help make your event a success. We can provide customized instructions once we have received the details of your wine event.

Information you'll need to start:

  • Determine number to attend
  • Choose what type of event you'd like to host—a wine dinner, or a less formal wine tasting with crackers and cheese or Hors d'oeuvres
  • Decide if you would like someone to make a presentation about the wines, and answer questions from guests

What You'll Need to Provide:

  • A clean venue suitable for tasting wine (i.e. temperature-controlled environment, preferably indoors, without strong aromas and with enough room for your guests)
  • If an informal tasting, a table at the entrance to pass out tasting sheets, pens/pencils and stemware to each attendee as they enter the tasting
  • White linen covers for tables
  • Suitable stemware (one per attendee, with extra figured for breakage, etc)
  • Dump/spit buckets, one at each table, to be emptied as needed
  • Ice buckets and ice to chill white wines (size depends on how many whites you have that evening)
  • Water pitchers at each table, kept full during the event, with no ice

The Wine
The Wine Thief can offer your party currently released wines—and on a limited basis—aged library wines from great vintages. We can also provide staff to pour and/or discuss the evening's wine selection with your guests.

For a tasting only, attendees should receive standard tasting pours, which are small to avoid waste and inebriated guests. Based on your projected attendance, we can help you determine how much wine you need; also, we can help you pair wines with the food menu.

Also, The Wine Thief can help you source the following materials:

  • stemware rentals
  • linen rentals
  • dump buckets
  • ice buckets
  • master tasting notes or information sheets (you'll need to make copies)
